The City of West Hollywood presents its 2017 Summer Sounds Free Outdoor Concert Series, which will take place on selected Sunday evenings at 5 p.m. between Sunday, July 9, 2017 and Sunday, September 10, 2017 in open-air spaces at public parks in West Hollywood.
The series will kick-off with Jack’s Cats on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at 5 p.m. at Kings Road Park, located at 1000 N. Kings Road. Jack’s Cats will serve-up pre-bop jazz that delights the ears and feet with a new-old sound unmistakably grounded in ’30s and ’40s vintage jazz and swing, yet feels contemporary and alive.
The next concert in the series will feature a blend of funk, rock, reggae and Brazilian music performed by Delta Nove on Sunday, July 30, 2017 at 5 p.m. at Plummer Park, located at 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard. Delta Nove has played more than 1,000 shows nationally and always brings audiences a fun dance party for people of all ages.
Nutty will perform on Sunday, August 20, 2017 at 5 p.m. at Kings Road Park, located at 1000 N. Kings Road. Nutty is a hard-swingin’ octet that projects pop and rock classics onto a jazz canvas, performing resultant mashups with a stage presentation reminiscent of a Rat Pack show in 1960s Vegas. With swank crooner Sonny Moon up front, the band cleverly weaves familiar straight-ahead jazz, big band swing, Latin, lounge, and TV/film themes into the mix to create a musical martini that is spiked, shaken, and stirred.
Closing out the series will be Benny Brydern’s Blue Four, which will perform on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at 5 p.m. at Plummer Park, located at 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard. Benny Brydern’s Blue Four is a sassy, snappy ensemble, consisting of violin, two guitars, and a string bass that, together, deliver early jazz swing with punch and perfection.
The 2017 West Hollywood Summer Sounds Free Outdoor Concert Series is organized by the City of West Hollywood’s WeHo Arts program. Summer Sounds concerts are free to attend; RSVPs are not required. Limited first-come, first-served seating will be available, and attendees are welcome to bring picnics and picnic blankets.
