In a last minute switch up, Fred Segal Cafe by Tartine will open on Monday in West Hollywood. While this will be the first outlet of Tartine in LA, they are opening with coffee only from Coffee Manufactory, and will gradually be adding in Tartine menu items including baked goods and new items Chad Robertson and team have been developing for the last year in San Francisco. Stay tuned for more updates in the coming week, but now you know where to grab a killer cup of Joe to kick-start your next Monday.
Coffee Manufactory, the coffee roasting business of the world-renowned, Bay Area-based Tartine, opened a 5,000-square roasting facility at Jack London Square (Oakland, CA) in September. It is Tartine’s first stand-alone roasting facility and specializes in small-batch roasting with an extreme focus on quality and transparency. Using the finest green coffee beans sustainably sourced from regions of Latin America and Africa, Coffee Manufactory works directly with farmers to seasonally source beans to create the most exceptional coffees.
Chris Jordan, the head of coffee for the business and its Chief Operating Officer has a long history in coffee, including an extended period of time working and living in Africa with TechnoServe and NGO, to support smallholder farmers to improve quality and volume and accessing specialty markets.
“We are excited to be at Jack London, near the port of Oakland, and important coffee port, and where all of our coffees arrive. This is a vibrant area with a great history in coffee” Says Jordan.
The new Jack London Square facility will feature a California-manufactured sustainable 70kg Loring Smart Roaster, which delivers a unique smokeless roasting process ensuring consistency of bean temperature and color within each roast. Customers will have the opportunity to view the roasting and packaging operations firsthand within the facility. Coffee Manufactory will also provide on-site coffee bean roasting training to wholesalers.
Restaurants currently serving Coffee Manufactory include Felix and Botanica, as well as the forthcoming April Bloomfield restaurant, The Hearth & Hound and Adam Perry Lang’s APL Restaurant.
