On the heels of chef Ludo’s fried chicken pop-up in Beverly Hills at the Montage, another special deli butcher shop and a superhero-themed pop-up will be underway this weekend on Fairfax Avenue.
A special two-day immersive theatrical and culinary experience will open this week to launch the upcoming Amazon Original series The Boys, with radical world-acclaimed chef Ludo Lefebvre to helm the menu. The Boys, based on The New York Times-bestselling comic, is a fun and irreverent take on what happens when superheroes – who are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians and as revered as Gods – abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. Envisioned as an extension of this world, a real-life Butcher Shop will bring the story to life along LA’s pop-and-street culture-focused Fairfax Ave. open July 27-28, 2019 from 11am to 7pm. The Butcher Shop dangerous delicatessen takes its name from the show’s central character Billy Butcher, staged with lifelike Hollywood-level set and props, thrilling visitors with interactive theatre and exclusive show previews, alongside gourmet sandwiches created by Lefebvre. The Boys premieres July 26 exclusively on Amazon Prime Video in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide. Lefebvre’s menu, which will pull from thematic elements, core characters and the gritty backdrop in which the show takes place, will include options such as Hamlander with ham, American cheese, radish, cornichon, and honey butter; or the Starcrossed with sliced lamb, harissa, arugula, dill and yogurt, with all sandwiches complimentary to guests. “I was immediately hooked on The Boys, its gritty nature, its no-nonsense action, and its pure unapologetic indulgence. It’s everything I try to bring to my guests when I create food for them,” said Lefebvre. “So when the Amazon Prime Video team approached me to collaborate with them on Butcher Shop, what else could I say but “f**k yeah!”
During the two-day service, visitors will be immersed in exhilarating sights and sounds, possibly even getting a glimpse into The Boys’ secret hideout, which may contain the captive ‘supes’. Throughout the Butcher Shop, hidden references and coded messages will expand the story, drawing patrons further into The Boys’ world. For guests unable to attend the pop-up shop, leading live-streaming platform Twitch will stream the experience to audiences worldwide. At the end of the two-day service, the Butcher Shop will close as dramatically as it opened, with an appropriate serving of shock value. “Our goal is to creatively and artfully recreate The Boys’ universe with an experience that’s fully immersive and fun for fans, in the heart of LA’s buzzing Fairfax district,” said Mike Benson, Head of Marketing at Amazon Studios. “The Butcher Shop experience will capture the hearts – and stomachs – of comic-book fans and future The Boys fans alike, and it continues the work of Amazon Prime Video to lead the entertainment industry with experiences that connect fans in a deeper way to our series’.” The upcoming Butcher Shop experience, turns Fairfax into a live-action stage set, embodying the protagonists’ signature blue-collar grit and edge, and engaging existing comic book and superhero movie fans as much as to those who’ve reached ‘do-gooder superhero’ fatigue.
The Butcher Shop opens with an invite-only party on July 25th. The immersive theatrical and culinary experience will be open to the public on July 27th and 28th, between 11am-7pm. The Butcher Shop will be located at 457 N Fairfax Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90036.
