Sandwiched between a Blue Bottle Coffee and an Aesop skincare outpost, BASE COAT (from Denver and downtown LA), is a non-toxic nail salon founded on the idea that the time you spend at the salon should be the most relaxing part of your day in a clean, beautiful and inviting space. The salon strives for a healthy nail spa experience for each of their guests and believe you can have beautiful nails without having to expose yourself to toxins & chemicals.
According to Ali Elman, BASE COAT Nail Salon Founder, “As with all our salons, we like to let the neighborhood and feeling of the space itself help dictate design direction. Fairfax is a small space, so it needs to pack a big design punch while still feeling serene. Being in a West Hollywood area, we were inspired by what comes to mind when most people think of LA; Palm Trees, Foliage, Sunlight and Vibrant Neon Lights. Using this inspiration, Fairfax has pops of Palm Tree Patterns throughout, white cabinetry & pink neon. It is a detour from our DTLA location which is heavy in black and brass, but still has a feeling of being classic, as all of our locations do.”
The name BASE COAT was inspired by the philosophy of the business and brand: A beautiful set of nails starts with a healthy base coat. That is the foundation of the business and also the inspiration behind the two X’s in the logo: 10 fingers and 10 toes — XX.
