The second annual event PHOTO16 presented at Milk, is better than ever with a theme of “ICONS” as it continues to support the creation of The AIDS Monument in the City of West Hollywood. This year’s anticipated photo auction will feature rare imagesry of iconic figure including: David Bowie, Prince, Andy Warhol, Muhammad Ali, Bette Midler, Tupac to David Hockney’s pool. Milk Studios (855 N Cahuenga Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90038) will host the dazzling affair on Thursday, October 6, 2016 from 7:00pm – 10:00pm. Proceeds from the reception and auction will benefit the AIDS Monument in West Hollywood Park (647 N. San Vicente Blvd., West Hollywood 90069), which is part of the City of West Hollywood’s major renovation to the area.
PHOTO16 will be working in conjunction with Paddle8 which will auction off these preeminent photographic works beginning Thursday, September 22 at 12 noon PT. Art curators from Los Angeles premier galleries such as Dean Anes from Gagosian; Michael Maloney of Maloney Fine Arts to Laura Watts from the Honor Fraser Gallery have come together to collaborate with private collectors and other cultural figures including Bobby Heller the founder of OPUS; Bryan Rabin nightlife & culture royalty; to heavyweight producer Lee Daniels, creator of hit show Empire to assemble a unique and provocative collection. Bidders will have the opportunity to view and place bids at the event and simultaneously with bids from around the world using Paddle8. Milk Studios co-founded by Mazdack Rassi NYC and Willie Maldonado in Los Angeles has always been at the forefront of supporting the industry’s most visionary talent. In looking for more ways to nurture and support the community Milk will once again host PHOTO16 as it merges together the worlds of photography and philanthropy so seamlessly.
PHOTO16 has engaged the participation of world-renowned photographers for this year’s ICON- themed auction including many great talents. Photographer Markus Klinko is debuting a rare image of legendary pop culture icon David Bowie entitled “Meditation” that was taken during his photo-shoot for acclaimed album Heathen. A stand-out photograph of Andy Warhol artfully dressed in drag by Christopher Makos will be part of the lot along with a formidable image of Prince by Randee St. Nicholas.
Designed by Daniel Tobin of the Urban Art Projects, The AIDS Monument will have a large digital component offering an integrated technology both on-site and online offering an overall immersive experience for users. Visitors will be able to upload their own memorials including stories, videos, and images of lost ones as well as honor caregivers, community leaders, and activists that continue to fight against HIV/AIDS. The AIDS Monument will act as an information center to the public providing links to information on HIV/AIDS prevention and education while also raising awareness about the history and culture of the disease. The Monument will serve as a physical and digital commemoration encouraging conversation while removing the stigma that HIV/AIDS still carries.
