If you don’t have plans to fight the beach traffic this holiday weekend, one of our favorite chefs has not one but three new delivery concepts and we can also tell you how to get craft cocktails without leaving your house, and where to find a Godfather sandwich without crossing the 405 West.
While we are still in morning over Greenspan’s Grilled Cheese closing on Melrose, the beloved chef and Food Network star, Eric Greenspan, has been busy launching 3 different delivery concepts out of an incubator kitchen near Korea Town. First out of the gate was Chino: the home of the orange chicken burrito which is mash-up that works. Crispy orange flavored chicken is wrapped in a flour tortilla that’s stuffed with fried rice and snap pea tendrils and daikon slaw, so plenty of satisfying crunch with the sweet and sour Asian flavors. Be sure to order a side of wasabi guacamole with wonton and blue corn tortilla chips which go surprisingly well together.
But Greenspan’s ode to his favorite New York sandwich was calling. The B.E.C. was born which is a homage to the bodega bacon, egg and cheese on a poppy seed Kaiser roll but with touches like thick cut black pepper coarse bacon, house-made chorizo. The sandwiches are only $9 with a tasty side dish of smashed and fried potato ‘loosies’ with cotija cheese and spicy sour cream ($4.50). Companion concept Brekkie followed with giant breakfast burritos, with cheddar cheese scrambled eggs, caramelized onions, crispy hash browns, sour cream and a tomatillo sauce and assorted breakfast meat options. Brekkie will also feature a parker roll adorned egg sandwich with over medium eggs and a breakfast bowl option as well. And, if you want a cup of coffee, don’t worry that it won’t be hot upon arrival. A disposable to-go cup comes complete with a potent coffee cube. Just add hot water.

Pink Dot has a new image and revamped store on Sunset across from The Jeremy Hotel, but they also have a cool cocktail on-demand delivery program.
Just say ‘no’ to canned cocktails this summer! Hollywood’s original delivery service, Pink Dot, has announced its highly anticipated launch of Craft Cocktails on Demand. As the first of its kind for on-demand deliveries, consumers will be able to order from Pink Dot’s website the complete ingredients for a specialty cocktail, delivered straight to your home or office. The kits start at $39.99 and you have the option to add in the specific liquor you want (we opted for Casa Amigos tequila blanco), any ice or cups you may need, limes and even a cocktail shaker. The kit includes everything from juice mixers and napkins to cactus garnishes in a cool recyclable box.
Pink Dot will also be offering free delivery for their craft cocktails on-demand starting on Thursday, 5/24 through Monday, 5/28.

And, speaking of the old Greenspan’s former brick and mortar on Melrose, a new sub-sandwich spot has opened by Miami Beach, James Beard Award Semifinalist Chef Michael Pirolo, Pagani Projects and K2 Restaurants, next to a great stretch of the block with Melrose Umbrella Company, Blackbird Pizza and EKA Ramen.
Pirolo’s Panino has chicken parm, meatballs, a unique Caesar salad with sundried tomatoes and cannoli that is worth a trip back. There is also a “Godfather” deli concoction than should keep fans of the famed Bay Cities Godmother in Santa Monica happy to not cross the 405 during rush hour - but a sandwich by that name was a bold move. I guess they figured there was good street cred karma at this location thanks to Greenspan, and they would be right. www.pirolos.com
