Lily Collins, Peyton List, Jessie Metcalfe, Cara Santana and more celebrate the opening of Beau Dunn’s Plastic exhibition at De Re Gallery

By West Hollywood Lifestyle

In an exhibit space where modern prodigies mingle with established masters, De Re Gallery debuted its Plastic exhibition by contemporary artist Beau Dunn on Thursday, November 17, at 6:00 p.m. Plastic reflects society’s obsession with beauty, age, and fame – a tribute to the Barbies of Beverly Hills.

Art collectors and enthusiasts, celebrities and VIP guests showed up to support the artists. Prominent guests include Lily Collins, Peyton List, Jessie Metcalfe, Cara Santana, Alessandra Torresani and more. The opening reception offered Artist Vodka, Kim Crawford Wine, Stella Rosa and Diama Rose. Additionally, guests enjoyed customized Waffleshots by Zia Valentina: http://www.ziavalentina.com.

Dunn is known for her buzzworthy photography, sculptures and paintings inspired by the paradox of childhood innocence, materialism and consumerism. Most recently, Dunn’s work is on display in Kris Jenner’s closet. Dunn collaborated with Kris on a ‘Need Money For Birkin’ piece for her walk-in closet that features multiple shelves of Hermès’ Birkin bags.

In her Plastic exhibition, Dunn debuted works from her Barbie, Size Does Matter and Next Generation series. Pieces include lifesize condoms, ‘Gold Digger’ and ‘Sugar Daddy’ pieces inspired by the popular board game Operation, Barbie photographs with Swarovski crystals, her well-known neon pieces and more.

A popular children’s toy, an icon of childhood innocence, is now seen as a stereotypical representation of what society wants. Feminists believe Barbie’s flawless face and body proportions are unrealistic, unattainable, and unhealthy representations of the female form. With “Need Money For Birkin” and “Need Money For Botox” pieces, the Next Generation collection highlights high-end items rather than our basic survival items of food, water and shelter.

American masculinity is currently being redefined. Size Does Matter represents societal pressures imposed upon modern day men. Masculinity is now measured financially, materially and of course sexually. Don’t be fooled, Size Does Matter, and if she tells you it doesn’t; she’s lying.

Plastic will be on display exclusively at De Re Gallery through mid-December in Los Angeles: 8373 Melrose Ave. For further information on De Re Gallery, visit http://www.deregallery.com and www.beaudunnart.com.
