Marvin

Marvin Tuesday Sherry
This under-the-radar French themed bistro style eatery – brought to you by Max Marder (yes, famed restauranteur Bruce is his Father), is now offering a tasty-tapas on Tuesday evenings from 6pm until close. “Sam and Harry” is a riff on ham and sherry which is definitely what you will want to order. The thinly sliced salty jamon iberico is drizzled with olive oil and accompanied by pan con tomate that pairs perfectly with a slightly sweet sherry or a glass of bubbly. Other hams include serrano and prosciutto di parma. Spanish tins of fish from tuna to trout, mussels and mackerel make the perfect drinking nibbles as you stab them with a toothpick or add onto the thick, crusty bread. Other hits include potato tortilla and croquettas. So what are you doing next Tuesday? www.chezmarvin.com
Obicà

Obica pizza
We are happy to report that this mini-chain of modern Italian eateries has opened a successful outpost on Sunset Plaza Drive. You will not want to miss the “mozzeralla experience” which includes a table-side presentation of the classic caprese salad with tomato, basil, pesto and generous slices of the cheese – which can also be served with roasted artichoke, anchovies or mango salad with kale and hazelnuts. Save room for a pizza tartufo with thin crust, more mozzarella, Italian ham and black truffle. Standout pasta dishes include ravioli with black kale in sage butter and parmigiano reggiano or Tuscan duck ragu mixed into a rosemary pappardelle topped with orange zest. Of course they have plenty of great vintages of wine from the Mother country on hand and you can’t beat the hospitality of the staff or the scenic view of West Hollywood from the back dining room or patio. http://obica.com/portal/US/en/home/
Beefsteak
Beefsteak runny egg short
Top Chef contestant Marcel Vigneron has added a casual day-time space next door to his wildly popular dinner spot Wolf on Melrose with the long-awaited plant-based-plus concept Beefsteak. Translation: the base of the meal – whether a bowl or a wrap, is focused around vegetables and grains but you can add proteins such as Scottish salmon, poached egg, Petaluma chicken breast, Laughing Bird shrimp or Korean short rib. The latter goes well with the ‘K-Town’ featuring kimchi, broccoli and a ginger gochujang dressing. The show-stopper appears to be the hearty potachos which is a take on nachos but made with carrot queso, sunflower sour cream, pico de gallo and pickled jalapeno. The portions are actually huge and can easily be shared with a group of friends after a night on the town – they are open for dinner as well. Naturally, there are healthy shots, kale juices and matcha lattes but you can also order a ‘punch’ with a kick like vodka, rum or tequila, or try to ‘retox while you detox’ with a shot of alcohol in any of the healthy libations offered. This is our kind of nutritious conscious joint. http://www.beefsteakveg.com/
Au Fudge
Au Fudge
We love this drop-the-kids-off to play while the adults have a glass of wine concept but now they have an elevated happy hour for the grown-ups that we like to refer to as the after school ‘tipsy tea’ hour every day from 3-6pm. For nibbles they have chicken nuggets for the little ones and a ‘Milf’ for the Mom’s with blanco tequila, lime and agave. The ownership of this whimsically chic café is a West Hollywood dream team collaboration between actress Jessica Biel, stylist and designer Estee Stanley, Author and Producer Kimberly Muller, CEO of Barry’s Bootcamp Joey Gonzalez, CEO of Greenleaf Gourmet Chopshop Jonathan Rollo, and owner of Terrace Tower, Australia Monica Saunders-Weinberg, so it’s great for people watching on the patio when you’re not watching the children. http://www.aufudge.com/
