The City of West Hollywood is a co-sponsor of the upcoming Frida Fest 2016 Art & Music Festival, hosted by the L-Project Los Angeles. This second-annual event will honor the life and legacy of the legendary Mexican painter and feminist icon Frida Kahlo and it will include dance, an art exhibition, and musical performances.
The Frida Fest 2016 Art & Music Festival will take place on Saturday, September 17, 2016 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Plummer Park’s Fiesta Hall, located at 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard.
The event will feature the works of lesbian, bisexual, and transgender lesbian artists from the greater Los Angeles area and it will offer an evening of culture, creativity, and community for lesbians, bisexual women, and their friends and families. Visual works by Justine Reichman, Nikolista Boutieros, Summer Bernal, Yukiko Avila, and many others will be on exhibit. There will be several musical performers including Irene Diaz, X-Factor competitor Alexandria Nicole, Lilly Flor y Los Campas, and Medusa. The event will also feature a DJ and poetry. Rose Garcia from The Real L Word will serve as Master of Ceremonies. Frida Fest will also feature a Frida Kahlo look-alike contest, vendors, raffle, and refreshments.
The Frida Fest 2016 Art & Music Festival is organized by the L-Project Los Angeles, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering lesbians and bisexual women through the intersection of art and technology. Last year’s inaugural Frida Fest welcomed more than 200 attendees. The L-Project strives to build a stronger, more inclusive community with events that promote lesbian art and culture.
