Valentine’s Day for Every Love you Fancy

By Carole Dixon

Book this handful of our favorite spots in and around West Hollywood depending on your mood.

Pig and Pea Lovers on the Patio

This Valentine’s Day, Terrine, a California brasserie from Chef/Owner Kris Morningstar and Restaurateur Stephane Bombet, will offer a stunning, six-course prix fixe menu for $75++. Menu highlights include Ricotta Gnocchi with truffle butter, pea greens, and parmesan; and a Trio of Beef with short rib, natural bavette, and bone marrow with balsamic beet purée, red flannel hash, and horseradish. Upon request, Chef Morningstar will also offer an entirely vegetarian or vegan menu, course for course. Managing Partner and Wine Director François Renaud will be on-hand to suggest wine pairings best suited to each course for an additional $30. The regular dinner menu will not be available. Call (323) 746-5130 for reservations.

A Plant-based Love Story

Owned by the maestro of plant-based dining, Chef Tal Ronnen, who just released his newest book based on the beloved signature dishes at Crossroads (Crossroads – Artisan Books), will serve up a five-course menu ($75) this Valentine’s Day holiday. The menus feature hand-selected ingredients from the market, such as roasted chanterelles, that equally appeal to the senses and the appetite. Chef Ronnen, with Executive Chef Scot Jones will offer Walnut Sherry Roasted Chanterelles with amaranth apple gremolata; Sundried Tomato Cannelloni with sundried tomato almond ricotta, and dueling sauces (Spinach cream and Truffle cream); and Scaloppini Chanterelle with pomegranate seeds and prosecco demi sauce. Also offered is the classic Italian Wedding Soup—a fun play on the translation (minestra maritata) “married soup”—and was created for the menu (offered as an option for the second course) in the spirit of Valentine’s Day, inspiring couples to embrace love and romance over an unforgettable meal. This five-course menu will be available at Crossroads on February 14th only; seatings available at 5 pm, 7 pm, and 9:30 pm. For reservations, call 323.782.9245.

Low-Key Lobster for Two

Celebrate Valentine’s Day with oysters and champagne at LA’s beloved seafood mecca Knuckle & Claw. Skip the long, formal dinner and enjoy half bottles of champagne and $1 fresh oysters, with no reservation required. This special will only be offered from 5 pm – 10 pm on February 14. Add a lobster roll or two to your order, along with the new lobster pot pie, or a cup of chowder and enjoy a low key and romantic Valentine’s Day on their Martha’s Vineyard inspired patio.

Marilyn Monroe Fans

Celebrate your Valentine from morning to night with love-struck brunch and dinner dishes at Viviane, the newly opened Beverly Hills restaurant from Executive Chef Michael Hung and restaurateurs Stephane Bombet and François Renaud. For daytime diners, Hung will pay homage to the Avalon Hotel’s most iconic resident, Marilyn Monroe, with a selection of brunch dishes inspired by the starlet’s most famous sweethearts, including Joe DiMaggio, Arthur Miller, John F. Kennedy, Marlon Brando, and Frank Sinatra. After sundown, Valentine’s Day guests will be treated to a romantic prix fixe dinner ($72) with a choice of three courses, highlighting Hung’s modern, California take on Continental classics. Highlights from the dinner menu include a Caviar Amuse-Bouche; a Salad of Blood Orange and Chioggia Beets with fennel, spiced pistachios, and Greek yogurt; Pan Roasted Delta Sturgeon with sautéed Bloomsdale spinach, Meyer lemon potato fondue, and crayfish butter; and Rose Scented Pavlova with pomegranate crémeux, grapefruit marmalade, and toasted oats. Reservations strongly recommended; please call 310.407.7791 or visit OpenTable.

Rat Pack Throwback

Iconic Beverly Hills establishment La Dolce Vita serves a four-course Valentine’s prix-fixe from newly appointed Executive Chef Alejandro Galan, available for dinner from Friday, February 12th to Sunday, February 14th. Guests can whisper “ti amo” between bites of classic Italian fare – think lobster bolognese and truffle risotto, and cozy up in one of the restaurant’s plush, red booths (many of which are dedicated to loyal Hollywood celebrity patrons, such as Frank Sinatra). Italian and Californian wine pairings, curated by General Manager and Sommelier Melissa Strickland, will be available. Please call 310.278.1845 or visit OpenTable.

Other favorite notables in the Weho area include the romantic pink hued patio at Pump for a glass of rose and a light bite with your love, or the sexy and seductive SUR right around the corner for a dimly-lit meal and a glass of champagne.
