WHAT: Small Business Saturday is a day to celebrate and connect shoppers across the nation to small businesses in their local communities, and celebrities will be participating in West Hollywood’s “Stars Shop Small.” Small Business Saturday was founded by American Express in 2010 to respond to small business owners’ need for more customers during the holiday shopping season. According to data from the 2017 Small Business Saturday Consumer Insights Survey, released by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) and American Express (NYSE:AXP), an estimated 108 million consumers reported shopping or dining at local independently-owned businesses. Small Business Saturday is dedicated to celebrating small businesses and driving more customers through their doors on the Saturday after Thanksgiving each year. November 24, 2018 marks the ninth annual Small Business Saturday.

With only four weeks prior to the holidays, residents and visitors are encouraged to join millions of consumers across the nation to Shop Small on the first Saturday after Thanksgiving. In West Hollywood, proceeds from store retail sales and donations go to City of West Hollywood Homeless Initiative. The Initiative seeks to effectively address homelessness with a multi-disciplinary, multi-agency, collaborative response. West Hollywood’s Homeless Initiative targets the problems of homeless LGBTQ youth, as well as homelessness generally via services provided by Step Up on Second, Ascencia, the LA LGBT Center’s Youth Center, and the LA LGBT Center’s Mental Health Services, among others. https://www.weho.org/services/social-services/homeless-services
