Traditionally, National Doughnut Day honors the women who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I. In recognition of this history, Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken (516 W. 6th St), will celebrate National Doughnut Day on Friday, June 2nd with a limited-edition doughnut to support military families. The Cherry Pie Doughnut, available on June 2nd only for $3.50, features a cherry compote filling, shortbread crumble and tart cherry vanilla glaze. 100% of sales will benefit Fisher House Foundation.
The Fisher House Foundation provides “a home away from home” for families of patients receiving medical care at major military and VA medical centers. The homes provide temporary free lodging so families can be close to their loved ones during a medical crisis. One of these homes is located at the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center.
