The PickUp will start going all the way — to La Brea Avenue! After flirting with the idea of a longer ride, the City Council of the City of West Hollywood green-lighted the route extension earlier this year. Now, as The PickUp prepares to celebrate its second anniversary, the rubber will hit the road for The PickUp’s longer route.
The City will host a PickUp Goin’ All the Way Party to celebrate. The event, sure to be a crowd-pleaser, will take place on Friday, August 7, 2015 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Harlowe, located at 7321 Santa Monica Boulevard (between Fuller and Greenacre Avenues). The PickUp Goin’ All the Way Party Party will feature beats by DJ Derek Monteiro, and pop-up performances from some of West Hollywood’s biggest personalities including: Delta Work; Pandora Boxx & Mayhem Miller from RuPaul’s Drag Race; Vicky Vox from Magic Mike XXL; and local favorites Allusia and Misty Violet. The celebration is free and open to the public. Food and refreshments will be served.
The PickUp’s social media event invitation proclaims: “You said you wanted it, so here we come,” and “I’m sorry I was such a tease before.” Details for the PickUp Goin’ All the Way Party are pinned in a link on The PickUp’s Facebook page at: www.facebook.com/wehopickup.
The PickUp (also known as The WeHo PickUp) is a fun, flirtatious, and irreverent trolley service that was launched by the City of West Hollywood as a pilot program in August 2013. The City Council of the City of West Hollywood voted to continue the program in early 2014 and, in early 2015, it approved a route extension.
The PickUp offers a safe and convenient way to reach a destination in the City of West Hollywood on Fridays and Saturdays from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. The PickUp is free (and fun!). Summer “Sunday Funday” Service is here, as well — The PickUp is running on Sundays from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. through Sunday, August 30, 2015. The PickUp is a cool and convenient alternative to driving. It travels along Santa Monica Boulevard in a loop with stops in each direction between Robertson Boulevard and La Brea Avenue. It arrives at stops every 15 minutes.
A key to the success of The PickUp is its lighthearted vibe. The trolley features a bright palette of sexy graphic characters, which can loosely be interpreted as pop art from the 1960s. Onboard music thumps to beat mixes by DJ Derek Monteiro. Adding the service to a busy stretch of Santa Monica Boulevard helps to curb drunk driving, eases parking, and reduces traffic congestion. Riders of The PickUp enjoy PickUp Perks that make the switch from car to trolley well worth it, too.
