The City of West Hollywood will launch its new cultural plan, WeHo Arts: The Plan, at a community celebration that will honor local artists and people who contributed to a vibrant and multi-faceted cultural planning process.
The launch event will take place on Saturday, November 4, 2017 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Plummer Park Lawn, located at 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard. The event will feature light refreshments, music, small commemorative items, and information about the City of West Hollywood’s WeHo Arts program’s current opportunities and programming.
The celebration will honor local artists and all those who contributed to the cultural planning process. Attendees will be invited to watch artist Maria del Carmen Lamadrid Zamora’s ArtEverywhereballoon-mapping project with local teens. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet the City Poet Laureate of West Hollywood, Kim Dower, and write a line for the April 2018 Citywide Collaborative Poem; to preview the Queer Califas: LA Latinx Art exhibition curated by Rubén Esparza; and to learn more about WeHo Arts: The Plan through public art projects by Sean Noyce and YoMeryl.
WeHo Arts: The Plan is the community’s vision for the future of the City of West Hollywood’s WeHo Arts program. It is the result of numerous community engagement events, from pop-ups to small group discussions to activities throughout the City from April 2016 into early 2017, with input from the City’s Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission, Arts Division staff, The Plan’s consultant, and social practice artists. The Plan’s goals are to:
- Celebrate the City of West Hollywood’s distinctive artistic and cultural identities;
- Identify and commemorate West Hollywood’s support and advancement of the arts; and
- Articulate a shared vision for the future: securing the position for the arts and culture at the heart of our creative city.
The Plan was approved by the City Council of the City of West Hollywood in August 2017.
Admission to the event is free. RSVPs are requested but not required. To RSVP, please visit https://theplanlaunch.eventbrite.com.
