West Hollywood Conserves Water — Every Drop of Water Counts
The threat of a severe water shortage is a serious one for the City of West Hollywood, where daily existence depends largely upon water piped in from sources outside the region. The City is intensifying efforts to use less water and to promote conservation.
West Hollywood residents and businesses are served by two water utility companies: Beverly Hills Public Works and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP). Both utility companies urge customers to cut back water usage and to consider installing water-conserving fixtures.
The City has also made adjustments to reduce its water consumption in parks and medians by as much as 50 percent.

Ethics Reform Task Force Meeting, July 11 and July 14
The West Hollywood City Council has created an Ethics Reform Task Force to develop recommendations on campaign finance, government ethics, and lobbyists — the Task Force is looking forward to hearing from community members on these topics. Please join the Task Force for two listening meetings in July to hear opinions, experiences, suggestions, and questions from the community.
The first meeting will take place on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 1 p.m. at the City of West Hollywood’s Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard. The second meeting will take place on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. at the West Hollywood Community Center at Plummer Park, located at 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard, in Rooms 5 and 6.

NCJW/LA Advocacy Training Workshop: How to Advocate for Legislation, July 12
Do you want to learn tools to become a skilled advocate?
Join the National Council of Jewish Women, Los Angeles Section (NCJW/LA) on Sunday, July 12, 2015 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. for a special workshop about how to advocate for legislation.

Summer Sounds Concert Series Presents Paul McDonald Big Band, July 12
The City of West Hollywood, through its Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission, presents the 2015 Summer Sounds concert series.
On Sunday, July 12, 2015 at 4 p.m. the Summer Sounds concert series will feature Paul McDonald Big Band. The concert will take place at Plummer Park, located at 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard.
Showcasing the virtuosity and versatility of some the finest musicians in Los Angeles, McDonald’s explosive arrangements and compositions aim to bring the classic sound of big band jazz into the 21st century while simultaneously honoring the great tradition of this uniquely American sound. For 2015 Summer Sounds, Paul McDonald Big Band will perform an exciting program featuring a wide variety of big band jazz, Broadway, and Latin music.

West Hollywood’s Gay Men’s Discussion Group “TRIBE,” July 15
The City of West Hollywood’s Gay Men’s Discussion Group TRIBE meets on the third Wednesday of every month. TRIBE discussions are open to the public and attendees are encouraged to discuss their own experiences about issues of importance to the gay male community.
This month, TRIBE will be discussing “PrEP — Medical Tool In The Shadows.” Pre Exposure Prophylactic, or PrEP, is medication that can greatly reduce the chances of people acquiring HIV. Why has it been so controversial? We will focus on the social, political, and economic impacts that PrEP is having or could have on our community and beyond. Discussion Topics include: How effective is PrEP alone compared to condoms alone?; What does “Safe Sex” mean today?; and What is the safest sex possible today?

Art AIDS America Lecture and Tour, July 18
As part of WeHo@30 and One City One Pride, the City of West Hollywood is hosting a preview of a national touring exhibit that examines the impact of AIDS on art over the past 30 years. The exhibit Art AIDS America is co-hosted at two locations: West Hollywood Library and the ONE Archives Museum and Gallery.
Join Art AIDS America curator Jonathan D. Katz for a lecture and tour of the Art AIDS America exhibition. The lecture and tour will take place on Saturday, July 18, 2015 from 1 p.m to 3:30 p.m. — from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., participants will gather at the City of West Hollywood’s Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room, located at 625 N. World Special Olympics Games and Law Enforcement Torch Run, July 22
The Special Olympics annual Law Enforcement Torch Run will take off from Plummer Park, located at 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard. It will stop for a brief ceremony at the Sal Guarriello Veterans’ Memorial, located at the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard at Holloway Drive. Then, it will complete its run west to West Hollywood Park, located at 647 N. San Vicente Boulevard.
The torch run will begin at 7 p.m. at Plummer Park. The ceremony will take place at the Sal Guarriello Veterans’ Memorial at 7:30 p.m.

Landmark This! — Workshop, July 25
This interactive workshop offers an overview and provides questions to answers that residents may have about local landmark designation. It also offers tips on research, writing an architectural description, making the case for a site’s significance, and navigating the political process. This workshop is an opportunity for community members who own a building or site deemed historic, to pursue local landmark designation and to learn details about the process.

MOCA Walkthrough: Tongues Untied, July 26
The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (MOCA) presents the landmark documentary Tongues Untied by Marlon Riggs (1989). This film not only gave voice to the particular concerns of African-Americans at a critical moment during the AIDS crisis, but it also influenced a generation of activist filmmakers to follow.
In this walkthrough of Tongues Untied, exhibition organizer Rebecca Matalon will highlight MOCA’s history of AIDS- and queer-related programming.

Join a Fans in the Stands Group for the Special Olympics World Games LA 2015, August 1 (RSVP by July 24)
The City of West Hollywood, through its Disabilities Advisory Board will organize a group of Fans in the Stands participants for the Special Olympics World Games 2015, which will take place in Los Angeles from Thursday, July 25, 2015 to Sunday, August 2, 2015.
The City of West Hollywood’s Disabilities Advisory Board has signed up to form a Fans in the Stands team at the World Games gymnastics competition on Saturday, August 1, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The competition will be held at the UCLA John Wooden Center. The City will provide free transportation to the event for members of the West Hollywood community — fans should gather at 11:30 a.m. at Plummer Park’s South Parking Lot (in front of the Senior Center), located at 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard.
RSVP is required for the City’s Fans in the Stands outing to the Special Olympics World Games 2015. Participation and transportation are free. In order to be added to the reservation list for transportation, RSVPs must be received by Friday, July 24, 2015.
