Considering its glistening Red Building is only recently fully operational after years of sky-crane choreography and plaza remodeling, it might be hard to believe that the bulk of the Pacific Design Center — most notably the iconic Blue Whale mainframe that gleefully straddles the West Hollywood skyline — is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. Also curious is that the bustling art gallery scene, housed in the Blue Building’s second floor, is itself fairly new to the center — less than a decade old. It now seems like the most natural thing in the world to dedicate a significant number of showrooms and public spaces in the famously progressive design mecca to curators and art dealers. A match made in expensive, international, artisanal couture/decor heaven.
