Then and Now: The Iconic Hollywood Bowl

It’s hard to believe that the beloved Hollywood Bowl started out as a patch of dirt off the 101 Freeway in the shade of the nearby hills. Originally called Daisy Dell, it’s also hard to fathom that neighboring women actually hit the streets in long dresses and hats to protest bulldozing of the area in 1921, when the concert venue was in the early stages of construction.

Little did they know that over the decades the greatest performers of our generation would be gracing the amphitheater’s stage, from Frank Sinatra to The Beatles and Bruce Springsteen, to take advantage of the world-class acoustic shell at this famed outdoor venue.
