If you can’t book at table at Animal or wait in line at Jon + Vinny’s on Fairfax, you might want to book a trip to Sydney on Delta Airlines.
Starting this March, Delta will be making enhancements to its culinary experience for customers in both the Main Cabin and Delta One. This includes upgraded meals, and the expansion of Delta’s partnership with LA-based chefs Jon Shook & Vinny Dotolo. It supplements previously announced new appetizers and salads, upgraded flatware, sparkling wine, and customer experience menu cards that include details on the inflight food and beverage offerings and timing for each service.
On Delta One on flights from Los Angeles to Sydney, Australia, after customer satisfaction scores skyrocketed in response to the chef duo’s Los Angeles-New York (JFK) menu, they decided to expand the current partnership with the popular chefs.
Favorites like Valdivia zucchini spaghetti, braised flank steak with roasted Boniato and braised gem lettuce or the roasted chicken with a warm bacon vinaigrette are not your standard airplane fare. We have personally tasted some of the select menu items and can attest to the vibrant flavors, freshness and great quality that you’d expect in one of their restaurants. According to Dotolo, “What makes our food good is using all the products that we have access to.” That philosophy carried over to the new menu for Delta, including the use of fresh eggs – almost unheard of in the sky, along with partnerships using Schaner Farms of California, McConnel’s Fine Ice-Creams of Santa Barbara and many other top-notch local purveyors. The team is completely hands on producing the meals with the Gate Gourmet team. As Shook recently told a packed launch event in West Hollywood, “Thanks Delta for letting Vinny and I do our craziness up in your sky.” We say, “pass the miso white chocolate macadamia nut cookies, please.”
In addition, all customers on all Delta One international flights will continue to be served a selection of wines curated by Delta’s Master Sommelier, Andrea Robinson that are paired seasonally with each menu. Bon Appetit!
